UM STEM Education Kick-Off Meeting, January 24

This past October, following a yearlong exploration phase, the University launched the Innovations in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Initiative.  Its broadly defined goals: to produce more STEM majors, expand campus STEM teaching and learning facilities, engage and inspire K-12 students into STEM careers, and to increase the scientific literacy of all UM graduates and the general public.

Scientific inquiry is creative and competitive. Increasingly, scientists must also be collaborative to compete successfully for resources and projects. Collaboration is especially key to the competitiveness of researchers in small states with limited means.

Charlie Church Selected for Research Administration Fellowship

The Office of Research and Sponsored Programs is pleased to announce the selection of Charles Church, Ph.D., as Research Administration Fellow for the 2011-12 academic year. Dr. Church has been employed with UM since 2001, and currently serves as Senior Research Scientist with the National Center for Physical Acoustics, and Associate Research Professor of Physics.
