Searle Scholars Program

 

The Searle Scholars Program makes grants to support the independent research of outstanding young scientists who have recently been appointed as assistant professors on a tenure-track appointment. Grants are $300,000 for a three-year term with $100,000 payable each year of the grant, for research projects in the biomedical sciences and chemistry.

The University of Mississippi (to include the main campus and the Medical Center) may submit only one application per year for this program. Qualifying professors who wish to be consided for this nomination should submit their names to Dr. Alice Clark (UM) or Dr. John Hall (UMMC) by July 13, 2012, along with the following information: 

  • Title of Proposed Research
  • Abstract Summarizing Proposed Research and Significance (limit 250 words)
  • Present Affiliation (UM or UMMC) and Department
  • Present Position (Title)
  • Biosketch (NIH format preferred; NSF format acceptable)

A combined UM/UMMC committee will be formed to select UM's nominee, and an announcement will made by July 27, which will leave 2 months for the nominee and institution to prepare the full application, for submision to the Searles Scholars Program by September 28, 2012.
