UM ORSP Solicitation for Proposals to Use REMI PI+ Regional Economic Models

Purpose

To identify an individual at UM to use REMI PI+ software models for conducting regional economic impact analyses.

Background

UM has acquired a secondary user license for 1-Region, 169-Sector, and 82-Region PI+ models of Mississippi (IHL is the primary licensee). Under this license, a single UM individual (licensed user) and one designated assistant may use the model on a single computer for economic impact studies on behalf of independent research done by UM, and for economic analyses related to Mississippi state and local government. The licensed user can be reassigned by ORSP & REMI occasionally as circumstances change.

Institutional Need and Selection Criteria

There are occasional needs to forecast the likely economic or demographic effects of some policy initiative on a community, region, or the state as a whole. These needs arise from UM-initiated research projects, or when decision makers, business leaders, or potential sponsors approach the institution for an unbiased analysis. The ideal licensed user of REMI PI+ at UM would be the faculty or staff member who could make the most effective use of the software to answer these economic impact questions as they arise.

Proposal Process and Key Dates

Each individual interested in being UM’s licensed user should submit a 2-4 page proposal summarizing how your service in this role would benefit the UM research community. Considerations to address may include, but need not be limited to:

  • Capability to effectively use the software (experience, training, etc.)
  • Capability to perform economic impact studies (regardless of software)
  • Ability to assign or recruit an effective designated assistant
  • Availability to conduct economic impact simulations as a service to other groups
  • Expected impact to your own research
  • Resources required and mechanisms envisioned for providing this service

Dates and Renewals

Proposals to serve as UM’s REMI R+ licensed user for July 1, 2011 through February 28, 2013, should be received via e-mail to by Friday, June 17, 2011. A decision will be announced by June 30, 2011. The selected licensed user may re-compete each year thereafter to retain the licensed user role.
