The Institutional Review Board (IRB) is a committee made up of faculty and community members at The University of Mississippi. Appointed by the Vice Chancellor for Research and Sponsored Programs, the IRB is commissioned to review all proposals for research which involve human subjects, according to the University's Federalwide Assurance (FWA00008602) with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The purpose of the IRB is to ensure that all research conducted with human subjects is in compliance with ethical standards, university policy, and state and federal regulations.
All human research conducted at, by, or under the auspices of this institution, whether funded or not and whether conducted by the administrators, faculty, staff, or students, must be reviewed and approved before the research begins.
The meeting schedule for full board meetings can be found at www.research.olemiss.edu/cms/compliance/IRB/meetings. Please note, however, that only 5% to 10% of protocols require Full Board Review. Contact the Division of Research Integrity and Compliance (662-915-7482, or irb@research.olemiss.edu) to determine if your study might require Full Board Review. Protocols for Full Board Review should be submitted two weeks in advance of meetings. Other protocols may be submitted at any time.
