Information Required from Subcontractors ~ Animal Research

The University of Mississippi Animal Care and Use Committee

Many UM Principal Investigators subcontract animal research to collaborating institutions. As the prime contractor, the University of Mississippi must ensure accountability. Both domestic and foreign subcontractors must provide:

  1. Proof of PHS Assurance. If the subcontractor is a private entity or foreign institution without an OLAW-approved assurance, another form of proof may be required, e.g., letter from the office with oversight of animal research, other form of assurance to conduct research animal studies, etc.
  2. Copy of the animal study protocol.
  3. Copy of IACUC approval of protocol (may require additional approvals depending on the study, or other form of approval if institution is in a foreign country or a private entity).
  4. Copy of permit or approval letter from US federal office, state or foreign country.
  5. Protocol annual review/progress reports.
