PhenX Toolkit for Available for Sharing Human-subjects Data

Substance abuse researchers can now benefit from a resource that allows scientists to gather, share and compare human-subjects data. The Consensus Measures for Phenotype and eXposures (PhenX) Toolkit, which now contains 43 additional substance abuse and addiction measures, will increase the ability of scientists to combine data and work together across studies, promoting the identification of gene-gene or gene-environment interactions related to substance abuse and addiction.

UPDATED: Compiling Capabilities Related to Energy Development and Use

This month ORSP will significantly update and expand our current list of UM energy capabilities to include capabilities in technical, environmental, social, economic, educational, public policy, human health, and human behavior areas surrounding, or potentially relevant to, the development of and use of energy resources.

Mississippi Academy of Sciences Annual Meeting February 23-24

The annual meeting of the Mississippi Academy of Sciences (MAS) will be held February 23-24, 2011, at the Thad Cochran Center on the campus of the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg. Student and faculty researchers will present posters or 15-minute talks on research or class projects, network with peers and vendors in the exhibit hall, and attend the Dodgen Lecture, by UM Chancellor Dan Jones. MAS Travel Grants are available from the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs to reduce cost barriers to UM faculty and student participation (requests due November 14).

Charlie Church Selected for Research Administration Fellowship

The Office of Research and Sponsored Programs is pleased to announce the selection of Charles Church, Ph.D., as Research Administration Fellow for the 2011-12 academic year. Dr. Church has been employed with UM since 2001, and currently serves as Senior Research Scientist with the National Center for Physical Acoustics, and Associate Research Professor of Physics.
