Procedures Related to UM Centers and Institutes

The formulation of research-focused centers and institutes at the University of Mississippi invovles careful planning among multiple stakeholders, including appropriate chairs, deans, and the Vice Chancellor for Research and Sponsored Programs (VCRSP. Once a plan has been developed, the approval also requires multiple steps, including the VCRSP, the Council of Academic Administrators, and the Chancellor, before submitting to the IHL for final review and approval. A similar approval chain is required for renaming, restrucutring, or sunsetting a previosuly approved center or institute.

An assortment of forms and guidlines documents can be found below. For questions about creating, restructuring, renaming, or sunsetting UM research centers and institutes, please contact Jason Hale, Director of Research Development (jghale@olemiss.edu), early in the formulation process so that ORSP can help guide that process.
